As we head into summer, we're reflecting on all the insightful peer learning presentations that we have shared so far in 2023.  You can access all SHRA's peer learning presentations on-demand on our website.

These sessions provide a valuable opportunity to hear about challenges and learnings from previous retrofit projects from those who helped deliver them.  Follow the links below to watch presentations on a range of topics from councils and housing groups.

    2. Wimpey No-Fines - Archetype Spotlight

'Wimpey No-Fines' are buildings that were constructed in situ using concrete with no fine aggregates.  Between the 1940s and 1970s, 300,000 were constructed in the UK.  Darren Banks talks about his work helping Leeds City Council retrofit 190 homes of this archetype with an SHDF grant.

    3. Approaching Planning Requirements

Orbit Housing Association is a veteran of both the SHDF Demonstrator and SHDF Wave 1, delivering energy efficiency improvements to homes in the Stratford-upon-Avon District Council area.  Fallon Warren and Jeanette Hodges from Orbit discuss how to approach planning requirements in hard-to-treat area and properties.

    4. Tenant Engagement During Retrofit Programmes

Gravesham Borough Council successfully upgraded 364 homes during its retrofit programme.  Josh Arthur, project surveyor for energy and sustainability, looks back on how the council overcame its residents' concerns to encourage uptake.

    5. Consortium & Contractor Collaboration

Paul Norman from Clarion Housing Group reflects on how the housing association worked across several local authorities to deliver collaborative contractor working.

    6. Quality Data for Housing Retrofit

Arc Partnership delivered a wide-scale retrofit programme across Nottinghamshire as an SHDF Demonstrator.  Aaron Beattie, head of regeneration and major projects, and Jason Burt, senior architectural technologist share their experiences managing high quality data whilst working with several local authorities on this project.
